    Guidance & Counselling

    Guidance programmes organized by the school were conducted by the counsellor, school authorities, class teachers & external resource people. Additionally, guidance and counselling play a crucial role in promoting the mental and emotional well-being of children/students in schools. Counsellors can help students identify and manage their emotions, cope with stress and anxiety, and build healthy relationships with their peers, teachers and family members.

    Role of the Counselor

    • Analysis – collecting data from various sources to understand the client’s problem.
    • Synthesis – interpreting and organizing data to reveal students’ s assets, liabilities, adjustments etc.
    • Diagnosis – identifying the nature and cause of the problem.
    • Prognosis – predicting the future development of the problem.
    • Counselling – taking steps to bring about adjustment
    • Follow-up – helping with recurrence or new patterns

    SCHOOLS COUNSELING PROGRAM OVERVIEW

    The comprehensive school counseling programs should be designed to meet the academic, Career, and personal/social needs of every student and provide the following services:

    1. Individual and small group counselling based on school data such as attendance, behavior referrals, tardiness, state and district assessments, promotion rates, college going rates;
    2. Reviewing academic data such as report cards, progress reports, Academic Histories, transcripts and interpreting student evaluations such as academic achievement tests, diagnostic assessments, ACT, SAT, PSAT to identify students in need of remediation and academic assistance;
    3. Intentional programs and activities for students and parents based on data such as that described above to create a yearly, departmental calendar which addresses school goals, district initiatives, and student data, such as time management, study skills, learning styles, goal setting, career fair, safety net programs.
    4. Career and postsecondary planning to include rigorous coursework for all grade levels, career awareness, promotion requirements, acceleration mechanisms, 4‐year high school plans, graduations requirements, financial aid, scholarships;
    5. Responsive services through individual/group counseling, peer facilitation, consultation, and referrals to outside agencies including mental health professionals.

    The different guidance and counseling programs conducted in our school are listed below-

    1. Students evaluation report on DBDA ( David’s Battery of differential abilities)

    Psychological Testing began, it will be recalled, with efforts to device scientific instruments for the measurements and study of Individual differences in intelligence.

    The methodology for measuring mental ability stands at the crossroads between the traditional clinical-empirical mode of development and the increasingly favoured psychometric approach.

    Generally, a sten score of 4, 5,6,or 7 indicates an average level of ability of an individual. Whereas, sten scores of 1,2 , or 3 are typically found in individuals having very poor ability in that area. How ever , a score of 8 , indicates a high ability and skill in that area. Finally , stens of 9 and 10 are extremely high and can be treated as good predictors ability.

    1. A Counseling session to reduce stress

    A counselor will be given information to students about meditation and pranayama to reduce stress. Avoid social media during the exam time.

    Many questions were asked by the students like what is stress? How can come out from stress? All the questions were answered by Miss Aradhana Pawar. Students have shown their interest in counseling sessions.

     

    1. A worshop on school talking etiquettes 

    A worshop on school talking etiquettes was organized for the students of class 5th (B). This workshop was conducted by counsellor Aradhana Pawar at PM Shree Kendriya Vidyalaya Chourai.

    The counselor gave information to students about Etiquettes. As everyone knows, etiquette is a set of rules of behaviour that are associated with the external manifestation of attitudes to people. Etiquette helps us to know how to treat others respectfully and appropriately in any context.

    Students had learnt good manners by the activity. Always stand and greet when someone visits your home and at the time when they leave. Always ask “May I “before taking something which belongs to someone else and still share things owned by you with others.

    Student got information about A common form of teasing is verbal bullying or taunting. This behaviour is intended to distract, disturb, offend, sadden, anger, bother, irritate, or annoy the recipient. Because it is hurtful, it is different from joking and is generally accompanied by some degree of social rejection.

    Teasing can also be taken to mean “To make fun of; mock playfully” or be sarcastic about and use sarcasm.

    Many questions were asked by the students like What is Etiquette? Why don’t teas? All the questions were answered by Miss Aradhana Pawar. Students have shown their interested in counselling sessions.

    1. TARUNOTSAVA PROGRAM
    • It is a special program organised in our school for class 10th students to give career counseling, skill development sessions post exams.
    •                  This programme aims to involve students in various activities including counseling and career guidance services.
    • To help students plan what career they wish to pursue, school had conducted career guidance sessions.
    • Also, to encourage sports enthusiasts, special sports coaching should be introduced.
    • To strengthen the core competencies required for understanding subjects like mathematics, physics etc, KVS has suggested teachers to develop a module based on basic concepts. These modules will help students understand what subjects interest them and what will they be taught in Class 11.
    1. WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY
    • A session on World Menstrual hygiene day, 28th May 2024 was conducted in advance for female adolescent students to create awareness among them for Menstrual hygiene.
    • It’s a chance to highlight the importance of menstrual care, and raise awareness about the issues faced by those who don’t have access to menstrual products.
    • Good menstrual health and hygiene practices can prevent infections, reduce reproductive health issues, reduce odors, and help you stay comfortable during your period.
    1. Guidance and counseling sessions for Children with special needs (CWSN) on regular intervals 

    A Special educator was called in our school on regular intervals for providing short-term, goal-focused counseling as a part of the IEP. encouraging involvement of the families in the students’ educational process. collaborating and discussing with staff and families and understanding the special needs of a student to help in his/her adaptations to the surroundings.

    Counsellors make sure that children with special needs (CWSN) have access to the right kind of support and interventions to help them achieve better. A counsellor can also help teachers and staff become more aware of the needs of CWSN and the strategies needed to address those needs.
